Training on Monday for the FC Barcelona first team saw Ousmane Dembélécontinue with his recovery process. The Frenchman has been out of action since 16 September with an injury to his left hamstring, suffered in the 1-2 La Liga winagainst Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez

After undergoing surgery in Helsinki, Finland, Dembélé returned to Barcelona and we have already seen him at the Ciutat Esportiva on several occasions working on his recovery. Before his unfortunate injury, the 20-year-old had played his first minutes for the club against Espanyol (providing an assist for Luis Suárez) and started in the Champions League in the opening fixture against this week's opponents Juventus.

Barcelona were not made to pay for Gerard Pique's needless red card as Lionel Messi scored his 100th European goal against Olympiacos.


Lionel Messi brought up 100 goals in European club competitions as Barcelona made light of Gerard Pique's red card to cruise to a 3-1 Champions League Group D win over Olympiacos.

Ernesto Valverde saw his team hit the front after 18 minutes against his former employers when Dimitris Nikolaou put through his own net and a straightforward outing in teeming rain at Camp Nou seemed on the cards.

But Olympiacos were given a route back into the contest when Pique, already booked, turned in a saved shot from Gerard Deulofeu with his hand and referee Willie Collum was in no doubt the Spain centre-back had to go.

The sound of opportunity knocking did not draw Panagiotis Lemonis' men from their shells and Messi joined his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo as the second member of an exclusive club by winning and converting a free-kick after the hour.

Lucas Digne made sure of Barca preserving their 100 per cent record in this season's competition, while Nikolaou concluding an eventful 90 minutes by powering in a header at the same end where he erred earlier was scant consolation to Olympiacos, who are pointless after three matches.

Barcelona were playing at home for the first time since facing Las Palmas behind closed doors in LaLiga on the day of the Catalan independence referendum earlier this month and some supporters waved "Si" banners in support of the separatist movement

The match soon settled into a pattern of attack versus defence and Luis Suarez almost gave the hosts a fifth minute lead, sliding in at the back post when Samuel Umtiti glanced on Deulofeu's right-wing corner.

Deulofeu performed brightly in the opening exchanges and he crafted the breakthrough goal when the unfortunate Nikolaou diverted the ex-Everton forward's low cross into his own net.

Paulinho was making his first Champions League start for the club and almost doubled Barca's advantage in the 24th minute when Andres Iniesta's floated pass prompted Olympiacos goalkeeper Silvio Proto to charge into no-man's land.

The Brazil midfielder could only direct his header against the crossbar and Proto soon displayed his capabilities in a more pleasing light by thwarting Suarez one-on-one before parrying away to his right when Messi darted in field on to his lethal left foot.

A routine half carried a sting in the tail for Barcelona, however, when Pique was given his marching orders for scoring with his hand, having received an earlier caution for a cynical foul on Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe.

Valverde sacrificed Deulofeu to send on Javier Mascherano as Umtiti's new partner at centre-back but LaLiga's leaders remained on the front foot.

Suarez's skewed his volley in the 50th minute after Digne got to the byline, with the Greek champions very much wedded to their earlier approach.

Nikolaou's night took another wrong turn as he had a hand in Barca's second by scything through Messi on the edge of the area. Proto was powerless to prevent the Argentinian maestro from making history and could only push a curling strike into the roof of the net.


It was soon three in the 64th minute as the Blaugrana attack swarmed the Olympiacos box and the ball broke for Digne to lash a low shot into the bottom right corner.

The overworked Proto scampered from his line to smother Messi's latest menacing run, while a ragged outing for Suarez in front of goal prevented an event more humbling experience for the meek visitors.

They at least had the final word as Nikolaou rose to meet a right-wing corner from substitute Konstantinos Fortounis and end his personal ordeal on a positive note.

Manchester United are flying out to Russia this afternoon (Monday) ahead of the club's second UEFA Champions League match of the season, the away clash with CSKA Moscow.

The Reds will go into the game in good form, having won the Group A opener against FC Basel 3-0 at Old Trafford as well as every domestic fixture since, with the Premier League triumphs at home to Everton (4-0) and away to Southampton (1-0) sandwiching last week's Carabao Cup victory over Burton Albion at Old Trafford (4-1).

CSKA Moscow, meanwhile, are also on a decent run of results. They won their first Champions League group game too, 2-1 away to Benfica in Lisbon, and have followed that by defeating FC Rostov - United's Europa League opponents last season - 2-0 at home and drawing 0-0 away in the local derby with Dynamo Moscow. They did, however, get knocked out of the Russian Cup by Avangard Kursk (1-0 after extra-time) last Wednesday.

Jose Mourinho's men emerged from Saturday's tight win at Southampton with seemingly no fresh injury concerns, but the United manager - who will not face any FA action after being sent to the stands in stoppage time - has not yet stated a likely return date for hamstring-strain victim Paul Pogba. He will address the media in Moscow at 15:00 local time (13:00 BST) on Tuesday in the regular pre-match press conference.

Conte: Opportunity knocks

Antonio Conte says tomorrow’s game is the right one to bring Eden Hazard back into the starting XI for, and he also reports some younger members of his squad are likely to feature in the Carabao Cup tie.

The boss was talking at Cobham on the eve of our third round game against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge. He spoke in detail about a couple of experienced wide men, Hazard and Pedro, and two more, Charly Musonda and Kenedy, whose senior careers are still in their infancy.

‘Now is the right moment for Eden to start the game and try to play the whole game,’ Conte reported.

‘I hope for him it is the final step from his injury. We have managed his situation very well. In my career I was injured a lot of times, and I have a bit of experience about this. Now he is ready to start the game.

‘Pedro has not been lucky this season,’ Conte added of the Spaniard who came off at half-time on Sunday.

‘He started the season with a bad injury in the Arsenal friendly game where he broke a bone in his face, and then he received a knock on his ankle, and now his leg. I hope for him to be luckier in the future.

‘Pedro is trying to recover from the last injury. It’s important for him also to work. Don’t forget when you are injured you can’t work, and sometimes you can lose your best physical condition. His last injury is nothing serious but he needs a bit of time to recover.’

Conte didn’t want to explicitly state who would be joining Hazard in the starting line-up but he did bring up a couple of names voluntarily.

‘It’s a good opportunity to give chances to some players who in the last period didn’t play a lot.

‘It could be a good opportunity for Charly Musonda, and also for Kenedy.

‘Kenedy knows very well what happened in China. He made a mistake, but everyone in life can make a mistake. He is focused, he is working very well and he understood his mistake. Now he is ready to play and to show he deserves a place for the future.

‘You can see Charly’s talent very clearly. I am sure we are talking about a young player with really good prospects. Now it is important he is working very well and trying to adapt himself to this league, which is not simple. It’s a physical league.

‘He is a bit thin but now he is working a lot to improve his strength and be prepared for the big impacts in this league. I trust Charly. It’s important for the coach to trust a young player, but also important to have a good answer when the chance to play arrives.’

Conte said the 20-year-old Musonda could play as a number 10 or a winger now, and in the future a spot at wing-back is a possibility for the Belgian.

The competition itself and tomorrow’s esteemed opposition also came up in the media conference, with Conte asked how seriously he would be taking the Carabao Cup this term, especially as we are now back in Europe.

‘It’s one of the four competitions. We have to try to do our best. It’s not easy to face four competitions but tomorrow is a good opportunity to give a chance to some players who didn’t play a lot.

‘This season could be an opportunity for all the players to play games. The most important thing is when the chance arrives, to take it. In our squad we have many young players. It’s important for them to take this chance and show me I can count on them.

‘For sure we want to win and go to the next round. It’s the same thought for Nottingham Forest. We are talking about a great club with a great history,’ he said, highlighting their success in the European Cup.

‘We have great respect for them and for this reason we have to pay great attention. In the last game they beat Newcastle. I have watched a lot of their games, and they play good football.’

Blind praises United's competitive spirit

Daley Blind has praised the competitive spirit within the Manchester United squad, which the versatile Dutchman feels is key to both individual and collective improvement.

The rampant Reds have made a blistering start to the season, currently sitting joint-top of the Premier League and leading the way in Group A in the UEFA Champions League.

Blind, who has started four games so far this season at left-back, feels the success on the pitch can be put down to the players pushing each other in training. However, he insists the hard work must continue if the Reds are to maintain the impressive opening to the campaign.

“I think, if you have a big squad, the competition is high in the training sessions,” he said. “It makes you better as a player and also as a team, and it shows the strength of the competition if someone comes in and they’re ready. I think it’s very good.

“I think we’re feeling good as a team. I think we show it on the pitch, how eager we are to win, how bad we want it and how we want to work for each other. That’s the most important thing, but we still have to keep our feet on the ground.

“We have to work hard every day to get where we want. That starts in the training sessions and we have to show it on the pitch in every game.”

United made a winning return to Europe’s top competition with a convincing 3-0 victory over Swiss champions FC Basel at Old Trafford, leaving the Reds in a good position ahead of next week’s trip to the Russian capital to take on CSKA Moscow.

When asked what it’s like to be playing in the UEFA Champions League again, Blind said: “The Champions League says it all. It’s the highest competition for clubs in Europe. The best teams perform in the Champions League and that’s where we want to be.”

FC Barcelona striker Ousmane Dembélé was successfully operated on Tuesday to repair a ruptured biceps femoris in his left leg. Dr. Sakari Orava performed the surgery. Dembélé remains under the supervision of Dr. Ricard Pruna. He is expected to be out for three and a half months.

The 20-year-old Frenchman signed with FC Barcelona in August and was injured in the first half of Saturday’s 2–1 victory at Getafe.

And so it begins… Yes, pre-season is over and the serious business begins in earnest for the Reds, starting with the prestigious UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid on Tuesday 8 August at the 33,460-seater Philip II Arena in Skopje, Macedonia. With the Premier League opener against West Ham United at Old Trafford also on the horizon, the Reds will be hoping to make a positive start to 2017/18 by taking home the first piece of silverware up for grabs.

How can I watch it? The match kicks off at 19:45 BST and will be broadcast live on BT Sport 2 in the UK. How did we fare in pre-season? The Reds enjoyed a successful Tour 2017, presented by Aon, with six wins from seven games. United kicked off with a 5-2 win over LA Galaxy, edged past Real Salt Lake 2-1, saw off rivals Manchester City 2-0 and beat Real Madrid on penalties following a 1-1 draw, before a narrow 1-0 defeat against Barcelona to finish the American leg of the tour. The Reds returned to Europe for a 3-0 win over Valerenga in Oslo, with goals from Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay, before rounding it off with a 2-1 success over Italian side Sampdoriain Dublin on Wednesday, in which Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata got on the scoresheet.

Any team news? Well, the Reds will be without suspended defensive duo Eric Bailly and Phil Jones, while summer signings Victor Lindelof, Lukaku and Nemanja Matic could make their official debuts for the club. But Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo remain long-term absentees. Real coach Zinedine Zidane could be sweating on the fitness of former Tottenham Hotspur forward Gareth Bale, who has been struggling with an ankle injury during pre-season, but it's not yet clear whether former United star Cristiano Ronaldo will be involved; he returned to training at the weekend and has been named in a 24-man squad.

What is the Super Cup? Similar to the FA's Community Shield, it's UEFA's traditional annual curtain-raiser, which pits the winners of the Champions League and Europa League against each other. The Reds earned a place in the showpiece with a 2-0 win over Ajax in Stockholm to lift the Europa League and complete the club's collection of major honours, while Real Madrid became the first team to retain the Champions League with a 4-1 victory over Juventus in May's final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

What is our Super Cup history? United have appeared in the Super Cup three times before and been victorious once, in November 1991, when Brian McClair scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade at Old Trafford. Since then, the Reds have been runners-up twice, losing 1-0 to Lazio in 1999 and suffering a 2-1 defeat against Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2008. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have won it on three occasions, including two of the last three, and been runners-up twice. The Spaniards overcame Feyenoord 3-1 in 2002 before beating Sevilla 2-0 in Cardiff in 2014 and 3-2 in Trondheim last year, while they lost 1-0 to Chelsea in 1998 and 2-1 to Galatasaray in 2000.

When did we last face Real Madrid? Well, as mentioned above, it's only a matter of a couple of weeks since the Reds last locked horns with the Spaniards, during the American leg of the tour on 24 July. United got the better of the European champions on penalties after a 1-1 draw in which the impressive Jesse Lingard's first-half goal was cancelled out by Casemiro's second-half penalty at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The last competitive meeting saw Real Madrid, then managed by current United boss Jose Mourinho, win 2-1 at Old Trafford to complete a 3-2 aggregate victory in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 stage in March 2013.

Tell me more about our opponents... 2016/17 was regarded as one of the greatest campaigns in Real Madrid history after they won four competitions in a single season for the first time. Zidane's men won La Liga for the first time since 2012 and claimed their 12th European triumph, as well as lifting the Super Cup and Club World Cup. However, Real have endured a stuttering pre-season, which included a 4-1 defeat by Manchester City and 3-2 defeat by Barcelona, while they needed penalties to scrape past an MLS All-Stars team after drawing 1-1. Madrid lost several key players during the summer, including Pepe, Fabio Coentrao, James Rodriguez, Danilo and Alvaro Morata, and signed defender Theo Hernandez from Atletico Madrid and midfielder Dani Ceballos from Real Betis. They will begin the defence of their league title away at Deportivo La Coruna on 20 August.

Any connections? Mourinho will come up against the side he managed for three years between 2010 and 2013. He won the Copa del Rey in his first season at the Bernabeu and became only the fifth coach to win league titles in at least four different countries after claiming La Liga the following year. Meanwhile, Ronaldo is in line to be reunited with the Reds, having scored an impressive 118 goals in 292 appearances for United in six seasons at Old Trafford before joining Real in 2009.

Any other facts and figures? United are unbeaten in 11 European games and are bidding to become the first English team to lift the Super Cup since Liverpool in 2005, while Madrid are aiming to become the first club to win successive Super Cups since AC Milan in 1989 and 1990.

Who's the referee? Italian official Gianluca Rocchi will take charge of Tuesday's showpiece in Skopje. The 43-year-old, from Florence, will oversee his fourth United game and first since a 2-0 Champions League defeat by Olympiacos in 2014, though he was fourth official at the Europa League final in Stockholm. A FIFA referee since 2008, Rocchi officiated at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and at the recent Confederations Cup tournament in Russia.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has suggested Nemanja Matic is not ready to play the full 90 minutes against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference in Skopje, the boss feels his latest signing may not be physically ready for the first competitive fixture of the season, despite an impressive opening 45 minutes in the red shirt during the friendly win over Sampdoria in Dublin.

Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are out due to suspension, while another defender, Tim Fosu-Mensah, is not involved as he finalises a loan move away from Old Trafford.

"With Phil Jones, I was expecting the appeal [against the ban] to be negative," said Mourinho. "No Phil Jones, no Eric Bailly and no Tim Fosu-Mensah because, in this moment, Tim is probably going on loan to another club. So we made the decision not to travel with him.

"The injuries are the long-term [ones] that you all know about - Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo. Apart from that, everybody is available. Obviously, Matic is available but not available like the others."

Alvaro Morata: Chelsea agree £60m deal to sign Real Madrid striker

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata for about £60m.

The Spain international must now agree personal terms and pass a medical to complete the transfer.

The 24-year-old would be the Premier League champions' fourth signing of the summer, after goalkeeper Willy Caballero, defender Antonio Rudiger and midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Morata scored 20 goals last season after rejoining Real from Juventus.

He won La Liga and the Champions League, but the majority of his appearances were as a substitute.

Morata could replace Spain team-mate Diego Costa, who says he has been told by manager Antonio Conte that he is no longer in Chelsea's plans.

Manchester United had been interested in Morata prior to signing Everton striker Romelu Lukaku for an initial £75m.

Morata joined Real Madrid's youth team in 2008 and was handed his senior debut aged 18 in 2010.

The 6ft 3in striker moved to Italy in 2014, scoring 27 goals in two years for Juventus, winning both Serie A and the Coppa Italia twice and playing in the 2015 Champions League final.

Real exercised a buy-back option in June 2016 to take him back to the Bernabeu.

Morata has won 20 caps for Spain, scoring nine goals, since his international debut in 2014.

If you offered me the choice between Morata and Lukaku, I wouldn't even think about it.

I would pay £20m or £30m more if I had to and I would bring in Morata.

That is because I would always prefer an intelligent player in my team. Even if he doesn't score as many goals, even if he doesn't do whatever he needs to.

If he is more intelligent then he can be moulded quicker, he can do what he needs to do. And Morata has Champions League experience. He was second top scorer for Real Madrid despite not starting.

He has done it at Juventus and he has done it at Real Madrid.

He understands, he has the pace, he is intelligent, he links up play, he can be a counter-attacking threat.

Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic left out of Chelsea tour squad

Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic will miss Chelsea's pre-season tour of the Far East amid suggestions that both will leave Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea leave for China on Monday and manager Antonio Conte has told both players they will not be selected.

Striker Costa, 28, wants to return to Atletico Madrid, even though they are under a transfer ban.

Manchester United have been trying to reach an agreement to sign midfielder Matic, 28.

However, there is also thought to be interest in the Serb from clubs in Italy.

Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is expected to replace Matic in the Chelsea side next season.

It is believed the 22-year-old will complete his move to the Premier League champions in the next few days.

Floyd Mayweather used a homophobic slur after accusing Conor McGregor of racist comments during the media tour to promote their Las Vegas fight.
Mayweather will face UFC lightweight title-holder McGregor in 12 rounds under boxing rules in August.

"He called black people monkeys," said the American, 40, during a news conference at Wembley Arena on Friday.

Mayweather then addressed McGregor as: "You punk. You faggot. You ho."

In response to accusations of racism, McGregor has said that he is a "multicultural individual".

The 29-year-old is alleged to have made racist comments during the third stop of the tour in New York on Thursday.

"He totally disrespected black women," added Mayweather. "Then he spoke disrespectfully to my mother and he spoke disrespectfully to my daughter."

Former five-weight boxing world champion Mayweather and his opponent McGregor have conducted a series of press conferences in recent days to promote their fight, with stops in Los Angeles and Toronto before the trips to New York and London.

McGregor has attracted criticism for a series of comments during those press conferences; the Irishman's statement in New York that he was "half-black from the belly button down" led Mayweather to accuse him of "crossing the line".

The American added on Friday: "I respect every country. Racism still exists.

"I'm not going to stoop that low and speak about his like or speak about his child. I'm glad that he just had a healthy child and he has a beautiful family."

Responding to Mayweather at the New York press conference on Thursday, McGregor said: "I'm a multicultural individual and I don't have any ill feelings towards anyone. I don't even see colour."

The four night global promotional tour is over and will reassemble in Las Vegas in the build-up to the contest on August 26th.

Thousands of fans packed Wembley Arena cheering and shouting McGregor's name.

Chants of "pay your taxes" and "sit down, shut up" were continually chanted at Mayweather.

This was more pantomime than press conference.

But troubling elements of this fight have emerged before the question of its sporting validity is even answered.

Sexist and homophobic language was used continually. The hype and hoopla - what should have been a carnival of over the top bravado - sadly had a misogynistic and backdated overtone.
'It's about taking risk'

At the end of the news conference, Mayweather and McGregor took several questions from the media.

BBC boxing correspondent Mike Costello asked McGregor - who has never boxed as an amateur or professional - how he addresses pundits who say he has no chance of beating Mayweather.

McGregor replied: "I do what I say I'm going to do, by sleeping [Mayweather] inside of four rounds - the same way I silence them every time."

Mayweather, who won all 49 of his bouts, was asked how he thought the McGregor fight would affect his legacy in boxing.

"In boxing, it's all about taking chances," said Mayweather.

"In contact sports, it's about taking risk, so if you going to take a risk, take it against the top guys."

Their hardline approach therefore seems to be slowly eroding privately, and Keita is due to hold further talks to plead for the kind of ambitious move he has worked towards since leaving Guinea for France as a teenager.

During the campaign, the relationship between Bonucci and coach Massimiliano Allegri went sour when they had a row on the touchline during a game against Palermo in February. Allegri then left him out of the squad for the following match against Porto in the Champions League.

As reports of further arguments between the two emerged, it has been said the coach did not want Bonucci back at the Bianconeri for 2017-18.

After joining Inter as a youngster and making a few appearances for the first-team, Bonucci moved to Bari before Juve. He played over 300 games and won six Serie A titles, three Coppas Italia and three Supercoppas Italiana with the Turin club.

Novak Djokovic beats Ernests Gulbis to reach Wimbledon last 16

Novak Djokovic overcame a slow start to keep alive his hopes of a fourth Wimbledon title with a straightforward victory over Latvia's Ernests Gulbis.

On a glorious day at a sun-soaked All England Club, the 2011, 2013 and 2014 champion rallied from falling a break of serve behind early in the first set to seal his place in the fourth round with a 6-4 6-1 7-6 triumph over the world No 589.
Djokovic is without a Grand Slam title since the French Open last year, which saw him become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four major titles, but he is moving back to his best and is yet to drop a set in the first week of the tournament.A title in Eastbourne last weekend, and the presence of Andre Agassi and Mario Ancic in his corner look to have revitalised the Serb who appears to be moving ominously towards the form that saw him dominate for so long before his recent slump.
Gulbis entered Saturday's encounter as the lowest-ranked player to reach the third round of a Grand Slam since Richard Krajicek at Wimbledon in 2002 but in seeing off Juan Martin Del Potro had served notice of his threat.
The 28-year old Latvian also has quarter and semi-finals to his name at the French Open and he showed what he was about in making a fast start against the 12-time Grand Slam champion.
But a run of nine consecutive games from Djokovic broke the challenge of Gulbis, who raised his level in the third set before Djokovic ran away, with the tie-breaker to seal a Monday fourth-round date with Adrian Mannarino.
Gulbis started fast, breaking Djokovic in his second service game thanks to a couple of crunching winners and he comfortably moved to a 4-2 lead with some booming first serves before the turnaround began.
Having had little chance on the Latvian's serve until the seventh game when he forced three break points, Djokovic made his breakthrough and never looked back as a double fault handled the break back - a break he greeted with a first roar towards his box.
The Serb held serve with little trouble before breaking Gulbis again giving him a fourth straight game and with it the opening set, the first set the Latvian had dropped in the Championships.
That seemed to suck the life out of Gulbis who quickly fell behind in the second, tamely surrendering his opening service game and when another untimely double fault from the Latvian handed Djokovic a fourth break, the writing looked to be on the wall.
With Djokovic leading 6-2 4-0, Gulbis mustered his first threat in ages to force two break points but four straight points allowed Djokovic to hold on before being handed two set points on the Gulbis serve.
All four were fended off to the delight of the Centre Court crowd as Gulbis halted Djokovic's run of nine straight games but it only delayed the inevitable as Djokovic closed out the set.

Who plays where?
Defending Premier League champions Chelsea travel to China on 22 July to face familiar opposition in Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger's Gunners side will have already played two matches in Australia by then as they notch up the most miles through July and August.

They meet again in the Community Shield the week before the league season kicks off.

Although Arsenal will travel the furthest, they will return to England to face Benfica and Sevilla before the end of July.

Manchester United and Manchester City have lined up a derby meeting during their tour of the United States. Jose Mourinho's United and Pep Guardiola's City face each other in Houston, Texas on 21 July.

Former Asante Kotoko defender Godfred Yeboah has urged the club's supporters to exercise patience with new manager Steve Polack after the club won the 2017 President Cup against Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Monday.

The Kumasi giants have had a poor season in the Ghana Premier League, currently sitting fourth position and eight points behind leaders Wafa with ten matches to complete the season.

However, after winning the President Cup, a section of the supporters believe they must add the league trophy to their cabinet.

"I think Steve Polack has done well within this short period he took over from the former coach. He is a good coach who can achieve success with the club if given the necessary support," Yeboah told Goal.

"The supporters must exercise patience because the fact that we've won the President Cup doesn't mean the league is automatically ours. He's now working on his tactics with the players he met and those he brought along so it is not as easy as many perceive.

"We don’t have to do anything to jeopardise the current form of the players because Polack is yet to taste defeat in eight games. They can even extend the winning streak only if the pressure to succeed is minimized by the supporters. Even if Kotoko aren't able to lift the trophy this campaign, next season will be perfect opportunity because the players will get better with consistency," he added.

Kotoko will host Medeama on Sunday before traveling to Tema to lock horns with Inter Allies and once again welcome Hearts to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium later in July.

LeBron James says Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry will still be underpaid despite reportedly signing the biggest deal in basketball history.

Two-time Most Valuable Player Curry, 29, is about to sign a $201m (£154.56m) five-year contract, his agent says.

According to Forbes, that would make him the fourth-highest paid athlete.

"Steph should be getting $400m this summer," said Cleveland Cavaliers player James, the current highest earner on $33.2m (£25m) a year.

NBA teams have a salary cap, which next season is $99m (£76m) per year [an increase from $94m (£72m)], from which they must pay the wages of all their players.

James, who has won three NBA titles, had questioned why there was a cap on players' earnings.

Curry has helped his side to two NBA titles in the past three years and has scored more three-pointers than any other player for the past five years.

He currently earns $12m (£9m) a year and will re-sign for Golden State under the new designated veteran exception rule.

Because Curry is entering his ninth season with Golden State - and has fulfilled other criteria - he is entitled to a new lucrative deal which can be worth between 30 and 35% of the salary cap. If the reported deal goes through, Curry would be on $40m (£30m) a year.

Away at the Confederations Cup with Portugal, Ronaldo was named Man of the Match in all three group games - against Mexico, Russia and New Zealand - but would only answer questions about the matches and the tournament when presented with those awards.

Back in Spain, Madrid president Florentino Perez gave several interviews after re-election for four more years and said: "Everybody knows I want Cristiano to stay here for life. He is one of the pillars of this team and also a big part of the history of this club."

Real remain confident Cristiano will stay, but the club are unhappy that their prized player has used the media to threaten a summer exit instead of talking the matter over directly. This week, with Ronaldo back in Madrid, the two parties should at least be able to do that.

Chelsea FC and Nike today unveil our new home and away kits for the 2017/18 season.

It marks the first collaboration of this exciting partnership, in which Nike will produce strips for the first team, Academy and Ladies teams, as well as a full range of apparel and training wear for millions of Blues supporters around the world.

 

 

2017/18 HOME KIT

A minimalist look creates a Chelsea home shirt that is modern and at the same time rooted in the club’s heritage.

A key stage in the design process was ensuring the blue is a perfect match for the club’s specific shade. An original shirt from the early 1970s was used to define the desired blue and Nike Football’s apparel technicians produced a perfect match.

This Chelsea blue is combined with contemporary design details and Nike AeroSwift technology to deliver a kit fit for champions. The round neckline includes a white trim with ‘CHELSEA’ knitted into the back of the neck in white text, while the shorts feature white stripes on the flanks – these, along with blue stripes on the sides of the shirt, expand when the player is in motion to enhance ventilation.

‘THE BLUES’ is written inside the cuff of the right sleeve and the left sleeve is adorned with ‘EST. 1905’, referencing the year of the club’s formation. A blue ‘CFC’ motif features on the front of the white socks, which integrate NikeGrip technology for the ultimate boot-to-foot connection.

 

 

 

The modern era has seen unprecedented success for Chelsea, with us having won every major honour in domestic and European football, as well as the Academy and Ladies teams lifting trophies.

The away shirt and shorts are white with a soft silver hue to reflect this collection of silverware.

As in the home kit, a fusion of technology and club heritage details combine to create a modern kit that feels truly Chelsea. Nike AeroSwift innovation provides advanced garment technology facilitating football at its fastest and the same Chelsea specific references as the home kit are embedded into the fabric.

Terry joins Villa

It has been announced today John Terry has joined Aston Villa after becoming a free agent on 1 July following his wonderful Chelsea career.

By moving to the Championship side, Terry will play under Steve Bruce who was appointed manager at Villa Park during last season.

Terry, who played in the Championship (known as Division One at the time) earlier on in his career when on loan from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest, departs Stamford Bridge as the most successful player in our history having won 15 major honours.

After coming through our youth system, Terry was handed his Chelsea debut in 1998 and went on to make 717 appearances. Only Ron Harris and Peter Bonetti played more times for the Blues.

During his time at Chelsea, Terry won five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, one Champions League and one Europa League, a truly magnificent achievement. His last appearance for the Blues came on the final day of the league season, at home to Sunderland, when he said an emotional farewell to supporters after lifting the Premier League trophy for the fifth time.

John is a true Chelsea legend, one of our all-time greatest players and he will always be welcome back at Stamford Bridge. We wish him the very best of luck for this new chapter in his magnificent career

Asensio going for his fifth title of the season

He can add the Euro Under-21s title to his Champions League, LaLiga, Club World Cup and the European Super Cup.Marco Asensio is in with a chance of winning his fifth title of the season. New kits in new Megastore this Saturday

Our brand-new Megastore will open on Saturday to tie in with the release of our brand-new home and away kits.

Our flagship Stamford Bridge store has been undergoing a summer of renovation but will open its doors from 9am on Saturday morning with a day of celebration.

As we prepare to unveil our new 2017/18 kits, we will also offer a ‘selfie’ photo opportunity with the Premier League trophy, lifted aloft by the champions at our match against Sunderland in May.

A Megastore first will offer fans the chance to purchase boots like the players wear, in our newly introduced Boot Room area.

There will be a lottery running from 9am for those supporters who purchase the new jerseys, offering incredible prizes which include:
First-team signed shirt
Two tickets to a match of your choice (subject to availability)
Two hospitality packages for a match of your choice at Stamford Bridge (subject to availability)
All-expenses-paid trip for two to Singapore to watch our pre-season match against Inter Milan

A DJ will be on hand to play tracks throughout the day and Chelsea TV will also be a part of the action, with roving reporter Jason Cundy speaking with fans to get reaction to the shirts and look ahead to our forthcoming pre-season tour and the new campaign.

Park singles out Rashford for praise

Ji-Sung Park took time out from his preparations for Manchester United's Legends clash in Barcelona on Friday to discuss his faith in the potential of Marcus Rashford.

The 19-year-old striker made more appearances than any of his team-mates last term and was hugely influential in helping win the Europa League, scoring vital goals against Anderlecht and Celta Vigo in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively.

When asked which young player at his former club had impressed him most, the South Korean star told MUTV: "Actually, yes [there is somebody]. Marcus Rashford has done really well. He had a great first season and then people had really high expectations but he showed his quality on the pitch in the second season.

"He’s improving with that pressure on him and that is quite impressive for me. If he can keep doing things like he is now, and progressing, he can be one of the best players."

Park himself is delighted he is still held in such high regard by the United fans, who fully appreciated his efforts for the Reds between 2005 and 2012, and had a message for the Old Trafford faithful.

"I really appreciate that they still sing my song," he said of the supporters. "I’m really happy to hear that song. I am still an ambassador for the club and really enjoy seeing the fans across the world. I know we have had a little bit of a struggle for a period of time after Sir Alex but we are getting back to our level and I’m really looking forward to the future.

"We won the European trophy and the League Cup last season and hopefully we’ll keep on doing well. Now the expectation is high to bring back the league title for next season so I say just keep supporting Manchester United and enjoy our moments to be back to our normal level."

United's sympathy for Jose Mourinho

Everyone at Manchester United is extending sincere condolences to Jose Mourinho and his family, following confirmation that the manager's father, Felix, has passed away. He was 79.

Felix was a former professional goalkeeper for Vitoria Setubal and Belenenses, and he represented his country, Portugal, on one proud occasion before embarking on a coaching career.
The Portuguese clubs he managed included the two he had played for, as well as Rio Ave and União de Leiria, where his son Jose would later take charge in 2001/02.

Our thoughts are with Jose and his family at this sad and difficult time.

Phil Neville: Mourinho's on a mission

Former Manchester United player and coach Phil Neville is intrigued to see which new faces the club brings in this summer and is convinced Jose Mourinho will build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

Neville, speaking to MUTV at the official launch of Cafe Football at the National Football Museum in Manchester, believes Mourinho is on a mission to follow up last term's three trophies with top-flight glory, after previously winning three championships with Chelsea.

"I’m looking forward to it," said the ex-England international, when asked about the upcoming campaign. "I think it was a brilliant season last year and it finished well with the Europa League.

"Now we’re looking to see who Jose signs because, if you look at the top six clubs, I think they will all strengthen. United have to strengthen and it’ll be interesting to see which team strengthens the most.

"Now, every time I pick up a paper, another player is linked with United but I’m sure Jose will bring success, like he did last season, and ultimately, hopefully, bring the title back to Manchester.

"If you look at the drawn games at Old Trafford last season and convert maybe 90 per cent of those into wins, then United would have been challenging for the title. If they can do that this year, then I think the title will come back to Manchester.

"I’m optimistic," Neville continued. "United are heading in the right direction and the confidence the manager and his squad got from winning the EFL Cup and Europa League can be taken into the Champions League and the league next year.

"It’s going to be a difficult season, as everyone else is spending money and improving. United are going to have to improve as well because they didn’t finish in the top four last season. Even that is a big ask, but I think Jose will want to win the Premier League. That’s the big one. He won’t settle for anything less."
